Art Lesson – Wacom Pen Settings That I Use

In this post I’ll talk a little about the settings I use on my Wacom Cintiq tablet. I really like to keep everything simple as possible (my personal preference) but the 2 things I care about the most is my line weight and building up shades. This is for Photoshop only, maybe one day I’ll create one for Illustrator also…anyway, I think that having a drawing tablet is essential for any professional digital Artist/Illustrator.

First, for my lines, I like to use a basic hard brush. I always go to my brush settings and choose Shape Dynamics > Pen Pressure. This will make your brush become thicker or lighter depending on how hard you press on the surface of your pad. This is a good way to build your lines.

For Shading, go back to your brush settings. Select “Transfer” and set it on pen pressure. I like to use this to shade and build up tones.
